World Hepatitis Day- 28th June
With the Coronavirus Pandemic world has become ever more conscious of one’s health. With this realization, it is also vital to know many other dangers which exist around us. One such being hepatitis in its variants- A, B, C, D, and E.
World Hepatitis day aims at spreading awareness about viral hepatitis, caused due to inflammation in the liver. Moreover, out of the 5 mentioned variants of hepatitis virus, B and C, contribute to the majority of deaths, about 1 million in a year and one person per 30 seconds in totality.
Hepatitis can be caused by a variety of factors, such as intake of contaminated food items causes variants A and E, whereas, B, C, and D generally occur as someone comes in contact with infected blood and body fluids. Hepatitis can develop into both acute as well as chronic ailment, hence, timely action is necessary to save one’s life.
As a precaution, we can make sure that injections we use are clean and sanitized, avoid unhygienic medical care, as well as the consumption of contaminated food products, additionally, sexual activities which cause exposure to blood are also dangerous.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) announced the theme of this year’s World Hepatitis Day as “Hepatitis can’t wait” highlighting the severity of the disease, so much so that even during the Coronavirus Pandemic people should not delay the treatment and take steady actions.
Overall, the deaths projected to be caused by hepatitis can be controlled if one is aware of the timely medical care available and takes proper precautions when around blood, body fluids, and contaminations.
